Deactivation of the Flap-Track Fairing

CAUTION: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO MAINTENANCE TASKS ON THE WING TRAILING EDGE:
  • DO NOT CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE ELECTRICAL CABLE RACEWAYS.
  • DO NOT CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE ELECTRICAL CABLE INSTALLATIONS.
  • MAKE SURE THAT THE ELECTRICAL CABLES ARE INSTALLED CORRECTLY. INCORRECT INSTALLATION CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.

Flap Track Fairing
To remove the fairing and/or connections from the flap-track beam after a fairing has become damaged or missing.
NOTE: Only one fairing must be removed.

A. Safety Precautions
   (1) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) in the cockpit to tell persons not to operate the flaps or slats.
   (2) As necessary, use the applicable SAFETY BARRIERS, specified by the operator's instructions and your local regulations.

B. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Make sure that the flaps are fully retracted (Ref. AMM TASK 27-50-00-866-009).
   (2) Install the 98D27803500001 LOCKING TOOL ZERO POS on the flap/slat control lever.
   (3) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE below the applicable flap track 2, 3 or 4, zone 531(631), 532 (632) or 533(633).

4. Procedure
Subtask 57-55-00-040-052-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Deactivation of the Flap-Track Fairing
   (1) Remove the damaged flap-track fairing (Ref. AMM TASK 57-55-11-000-001).
   (2) For the track 2 position:
CAUTION: DO NOT TIGHTEN THE CABLE TIE THAT IS USED AS A GUIDE FOR THE ELECTRICAL HARNESSES. IF THE TIE IS TOO TIGHT, THE HARNESSES CANNOT MOVE WHEN THE FLAPS ARE EXTENDED OR RETRACTED.
     (a) Examine the electrical harnesses for correct condition.
     (b) Install two layers of the conduit at position 1 ESPM 203333.
     (c) Safety the conduits at distances of 100 mm (3.9370 in.) with the TIE WRAP(S).
     (d) Apply TAPE - 3M CONDUCTIVE ELEC(X-1181-COPPER OR X-1170-ALU) or Adhesive Film Tape-- Aluminium Foil - (Material No.05RAB9) around the electrical conduits at position 2.
     (e) Attach the electrical harnesses with a cable tie at position 3. Make sure that you do not fully tighten the cable tie.
     (f) After each flight, you must examine the electrical harnesses and the interface connectors to make sure that:
  • There is no damage to the electrical harnesses.
  • There is no chafing of the electrical harnesses.
  • The interface connectors are correctly attached and are not damaged.
   (3) After each flight, make sure that the lubrication of the deactivated flap-track assembly is satisfactory (Ref. AMM TASK 12-22-27-640-004).
   (4) Make an entry in the aircraft log to tell that you deactivated the flap-track fairing.
Subtask 57-55-00-040-052-C ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Deactivation of the Flap-Track Fairing
   (1) Remove the applicable damaged fairing (Ref. AMM TASK 57-55-11-000-004).
   (2) For the track 2 position:
CAUTION: DO NOT TIGHTEN THE CABLE TIE THAT IS USED AS A GUIDE FOR THE ELECTRICAL HARNESSES. IF THE TIE IS TOO TIGHT, THE HARNESSES CANNOT MOVE WHEN THE FLAPS ARE EXTENDED OR RETRACTED.
     (a) Examine the electrical harnesses for correct condition.
     (b) Install two layers of the conduits at position 1 ESPM 203333.
     (c) Safety the conduits at distances of 100 mm (3.9370 in.) with TIE WRAP(S).
     (d) Install a TAPE - 3M CONDUCTIVE ELEC(X-1181-COPPER OR X-1170-ALU) or an Adhesive Film Tape-- Aluminium Foil - (Material No.05RAB9) around the electrical conduits at position 2.
     (e) Attach the electrical harnesses with a cable tie at position 3. Make sure that you do not fully tighten the cable tie.
     (f) After each flight, the electrical harnesses and the interface connectors, must be examined to make sure that:
  • there is no damage to the electrical harnesses
  • there is no chafing of the electrical harnesses
  • the interface connectors are correctly attached and are not damaged.
   (3) After each flight, make sure that the lubrication of the deactivated flap-track assembly is satisfactory (Ref. AMM TASK 12-22-27-640-004).
   (4) Make a note in the aircraft log that the flap-track fairing has been deactivated.

   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
   (3) Remove the safety barriers.
   (4) Remove the access platform(s).
   (5) Remove the ground support and maintenance equipment, the special and standard tools and all other items.
