A. Safety Precautions
   (1) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) in the cockpit to tell persons not to operate the flaps or slats.
   (2) As necessary, use the applicable SAFETY BARRIERS, specified by the operator's instructions and your local regulations.

B. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE TRAVEL RANGES OF THE FLIGHT CONTROLS SURFACES ARE CLEAR. MOVEMENT OF FLIGHT CONTROLS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
   (1) Extend the flaps fully (Ref. AMM TASK 27-50-00-866-008).
   (2) Make sure that the 98D27803000000 LOCKING TOOL-FLAP SLAT LEVER,INT. POSITION is installed on the slat/flap control lever.

D. Get Access
   (1) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position below the applicable outboard flap.
4. Procedure
CAUTION: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO MAINTENANCE TASKS ON THE WING TRAILING EDGE:
  • DO NOT CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE ELECTRICAL CABLE RACEWAYS.
  • DO NOT CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE ELECTRICAL CABLE INSTALLATIONS.
  • MAKE SURE THAT THE ELECTRICAL CABLES ARE INSTALLED CORRECTLY. INCORRECT INSTALLATION CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
Subtask 57-53-00-210-079-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Inspection of Outboard Flap, Bottom Surface, Drain Holes and Inspection Holes
   (1) Examine the outboard flap, bottom surface drain holes. Make sure that:
  • there are no covers installed on the drain holes
  • the drain holes are not blocked.
   (2) If a drain hole is blocked, remove all unwanted material from around the hole. Use a PROBE DIA LESS THAN 5 MM(0.197IN)NON METALLIC FLEXIBLE to remove the blockage from the hole.
   (3) Examine the outboard flap, bottom surface inspection holes. Make sure that:
  • the covers are correctly installed on each inspection hole
  • the covers are in good condition.
   (4) If the covers are missing or not in good condition, replace them at the subsequent maintenance check.

B. Replace Defective or Missing Inspection Hole Covers
   (1) Remove and discard the damaged inspection hole cover(s).
   (2) Use a clean Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) , made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) to clean:
  • the external surfaces around the applicable outboard flap, bottom surface inspection hole(s).
   (3) Use Adhesive Film Tape-- Aluminium Foil - (Material No.05RAB9) cut to the correct dimensions, to make new cover(s) for the applicable inspection hole(s).
   (4) Install the new cover(s) on the applicable inspection hole(s).

C. Inspection of Outboard Flap, Bottom Surface, Drain Holes and Inspection Holes
   (1) Examine the outboard flap, bottom surface drain holes. Make sure that:
  • there are no rubber grommets installed in the drain holes
  • the drain holes are not blocked.
   (2) If a drain hole is blocked, remove all unwanted material from around the hole. Use a PROBE DIA LESS THAN 5 MM(0.197IN)NON METALLIC FLEXIBLE to remove the blockage from the hole.
   (3) Examine the outboard flap, bottom surface inspection holes. Make sure that:
  • the rubber grommets are correctly installed in each inspection hole
  • the rubber grommets are in good condition.
   (4) If the rubber grommets are missing or not in good condition, replace them at the subsequent maintenance check.

D. Replace Defective or Missing Inspection Hole Rubber Grommets
   (1) Remove and discard the damaged inspection hole rubber grommet(s).
   (2) Use a clean Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) , made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) to clean:
  • the internal surfaces of the applicable outboard flap, bottom surface inspection hole(s).
   (3) Install the new rubber grommets on the applicable inspection hole(s).

B. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Remove the 98D27803000000 LOCKING TOOL-FLAP SLAT LEVER,INT. POSITION from the flap/slat control lever.
   (2) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (3) Fully retract the flaps (Ref. AMM TASK 27-50-00-866-009).

C. Removal of Equipment
   (1) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
   (2) Remove the access platform(s).
   (3) Remove the safety barriers.
   (4) Remove the ground support and maintenance equipment, the special and standard tools and all other items.
