A. Safety Precautions
   (1) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) in the cockpit to tell persons not to operate the flaps or slats.
   (2) As necessary, use the applicable SAFETY BARRIERS, specified by the operator's instructions and your local regulations.

B. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE TRAVEL RANGES OF THE FLIGHT CONTROLS SURFACES ARE CLEAR. MOVEMENT OF FLIGHT CONTROLS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
   (1) Fully extend the flaps (Ref. AMM TASK 27-50-00-866-008).
   (2) Make sure that the 98D27803000000 LOCKING TOOL-FLAP SLAT LEVER,INT. POSITION is installed on the flap/slat control lever.
   (3) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 5M (16 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position below the applicable wing trailing edge at flap tracks 3 and 4, zones 532 (632) and 533 (633).

4. Procedure
CAUTION: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO MAINTENANCE TASKS ON THE WING TRAILING EDGE:
  • DO NOT CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE ELECTRICAL CABLE RACEWAYS.
  • DO NOT CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE ELECTRICAL CABLE INSTALLATIONS.
  • MAKE SURE THAT THE ELECTRICAL CABLES ARE INSTALLED CORRECTLY. INCORRECT INSTALLATION CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.

A. Preparation for Inspection
   (1) Use a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) , made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) to clean:
  • the rollers (1), (2) and (5) of the flap carriage assembly (4)
  • the component interface and the adjacent area.

B. Detailed Inspection of Outer Wing Outboard Flap Track 3 and 4 Carriage Rollers
   (1) Examine the rollers (1), (2) and (5), for the flap carriage assembly (4). Make sure that:
  • there is no corrosion
  • there are no cracks
  • the rollers are correctly attached
  • the rollers are symmetrical
  • there is no distortion of the rollers or their pivot bolt attachments
  • there is not too much wear of the rollers or signs of grooves or marks on the flap track (3).
NOTE: If necessary, refer to:
  • the SRM 575133 for the correct beam repair procedure
  • the CMM 275446 for the correct carriage repair procedure.
5. Close-up

A. Lubrication
   (1) Use a GUN - GREASE filled with Synthetic Oil base Grease-General Purpose Lithium Thickened - (Material No.03GBD1) or Synthetic Ester base Grease-General Purpose Low Temp - (Material No.03HBD9) or Synthetic Oil base Grease-General Purpose Lithium Thickened Low Temp. - (Material No.03GBC1) to lubricate the flap track carriage-rollers. Lubricate all greasers until new grease comes out of the applicable roller.

B. Remove the safety clip(s) and the tag(s) and close this(these) circuit breaker(s):

   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Fully retract the flaps (Ref. AMM TASK 27-50-00-866-009).

D. Removal of Equipment
   (1) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
   (2) Remove the access platform(s).
   (3) Remove the safety barriers.
   (4) Remove the ground support and maintenance equipment, the special and standard tools and all other items.
