A. Safety Precautions
(1) Obey the fuel safety procedures when you do work in the fuel tank (Ref. AMM TASK 28-10-00-910-001).
(2) As necessary, use the applicable SAFETY BARRIERS, specified by the operator's instructions and your local regulations.
(3) Install the 98D27803500001 LOCKING TOOL ZERO POS on the slats and flaps control lever.
(4) In the cockpit, on the center pedestal, put the WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate the slats and flaps control lever.

C. Get Access
(1) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position below the wing fuel tank, at zone 540(640).
(2) Remove the access panel (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-11-000-001):

For the left wing: 540AB
For the right wing: 640AB.

4. Procedure
Subtask 57-27-12-020-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL

A. Removal of the Rib 2 Surge Door 540AZ(640AZ) or 540BZ(640BZ)
(1) Remove the surge door (17) as follows:

WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL THE SPRING. THE TENSION IN THE SPRING CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS.

(a) Remove the springs (11) from the hinges (18) as follows:
1 Remove the nuts (10), the washers (9), the bolts (5), the washers (6), the bobbins (7), the springs (11) and the sleeves (8).
(b) Remove the nuts (1), the washers (2) and the pins (4) from the brackets (3).
(c) Remove the surge door (17).
(2) If you need to replace the surge door (17):
(a) Remove the nuts (19), the bolts (15) and the surge door (17) from the hinges (18).
(3) If necessary, remove the springs (11) from the brackets (12) as follows:
(a) Remove the nuts (13), the washers (14), the bolts (22), the washers (21), the bobbins (20), the springs (11) and the sleeves (16).
