4. Procedure
Subtask 12-13-79-210-068-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Check the Oil Level on the Sight Gage
NOTE: This procedure gives the instructions to replenish the engine oil.
  • You must add oil not less than five minutes and not more than 60 minutes after the engine shutdown, while the oil in the tank is still warm. This will prevent over-servicing of the engine.
  • If the oil in the tank is cool or cold, the oil density will increase (volume decreases) and the oil tank can be over-serviced.
  • If the oil tank is over-serviced, this will not cause damage to the engine. The extra oil will be blown overboard through the engine vent system.
  • The quantity of oil can cause incorrect calculations for the consumption rate.
   (1) If the oil level is below the full mark, add oil as follows.

B. Filling the oil tank:
   (1) Remove blanking caps from couplings.
   (2) Attach hose coupling from oil service system to remote oil filling port. Attach HOSE - TRANSPARENT, FLEXIBLE to oil overflow port.
CAUTION: DURING FILLING, THE MAXIMUM OIL PUMP FLOW RATE MUST NOT EXCEED 66 US GAL/HR (250L/HR), OR OVER-SERVICING OF OIL SYSTEM MAY RESULT.
   (3) Filling operation
NOTE: Use of a plastic transparent hose in place of an opaque hose will allow detection of oil at overflow port location (oil tank "full") and give visual indication to stop filling sooner.
     (a) Add engine oil (Material No.CP2442) through oil service system until oil is visible through plastic transparent hose at the oil overflow port location.
   (4) End of the filling operation
CAUTION: REMOVAL OF DRAIN LINE BEFORE FLOW OF OIL FROM OVERFLOW HOSE STOPS MAY RESULT IN AN OVER-SERVICED TANK.
     (a) When oil flow from overflow hose stops, disconnect oil service system and check for oil leakage from the coupling. Slightly wetted surface, insufficient to form a drop, is permitted.
   (5) Reinstall blanking caps on couplings.
5. Close-up

A. Close Access
   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Close the oil tank access door:
